Blackman determined to prove Pompey wrong

Andre Blackman is determined to prove Pompey wrong after completing his move to Bristol City.

The 18-year-old inked a two year deal with the Championship side yesterday after being released by the Blues.

Blackman failed to get near the first team in his two years at Fratton Park.

Now the left-back is determined to show his old side just what they are missing.

Blackman is confident he is ready to make the breakthrough with the Robins.

He said: 'This is a very big move for me.

'I've not played a first team game yet, and for the gaffer to sign me and give me the chance to show what I can do is great.

'I want to express myself and show that I can be ready for first team football. It's a big move in general.'

Blackman spent time at Arsenal and Spurs before moving to Pompey two seasons ago.

He made a decent impression with the Academy and reserves in his time at the club.

Blackman made 10 appearances for the reserves last season, with just two players having more outings.

He scored one goal in that time and some positive noises were made about his displays.

An ankle injury kept him on the sidelines at the end of the campaign.

Blackman is still being troubled by that problem and is expected to be back at the end of the month.

He is currently working with City's youngsters to help him settle in at Ashton Gate.

He said: 'I'm working every day with the medical team and the aim is to be fit near the end of July.

'I can't wait to get out there and play, I just have to get over my injury first.

'Being around these other young players who have been in and around the first team certainly rubs off on you.

'It's been good to meet them and it makes me feel welcome here.'
