Claridge: Pompey should sign up Campbell and Hreidarsson
Steve Claridge insists keeping Hermann Hreidarsson and Sol Campbell at Fratton Park is a 'no-brainer'.
And he has called on Pompey to do all they can to keep them part of their future.
The duo's existing deals end on June 30 and they have yet to pen fresh ones.
Fellow free agent Sean Davis is already on his way to Bolton, where he will be unveiled on July 1, while Lauren, Djimi Traore and Glen Little have all been released.
In the meantime, Camp-bell has been linked with Aston Villa, along with FC Basel and Fenerbahce.
Peter Storrie has revealed further discussions on his future will take place when he returns from holiday next month.
Hreidarsson is a long-time target of both Rangers and Celtic, while Wolves have also been linked with the 34-year-old.
Between them, the defensive duo have racked up 146 Pompey appearances over the past two seasons and were cornerstones in the FA Cup success of 2008.
Yet, along with the likes of Noe Pamarot, Kanu and Jerome Thomas, they are awaiting clarification on their futures.
But former Blues star Claridge believes it is imperative both Campbell and Hreidarsson are kept on.
He said: 'The important thing is the players they want are still under contract.
'Then you've got others with so many question marks hanging over them and it's something that has to be resolved very quickly.
'Take Sol, based on the last three or four months of the season, I would keep him.
'He was very, very good and it's a no-brainer.
'Sol and Sylvain had a poor mid-season but both came back and played very well.
'Sol's legs were starting to be a problem – but he seemed to get a new lease of life and I would hand him another year.
'He is probably not going to earn the money he was on from his last contract so it might take a little bit of sorting out, but the club should do it. They need him.
'With Hermann it depends what you are looking at and what you are looking to achieve. But for me that's another no-brainer.
'He will give 100 per cent and has been a tremendous performer.
'The question is whether Pompey are looking at the top 10 or top six, how quickly they are looking to get there and how many games the player is prepared to play.
'I'd still keep Hermann, though, definitely. He can always do you a job.'
Storrie has already resigned himself to Davis leaving – the midfielder having yet to respond to the offer of a three-year deal.
Kanu is believed to have amassed enough games to qualify for an additional 12 months, although this is optional.
