Crouch eager to fire Pompey back into Europe
Peter Crouch has set his sights on firing Pompey to a European return.
The Blues striker has targeted breaking the 20-goal barrier to ensure his side are playing in the Uefa Cup again next season.
Crouch was the hero as Pompey bid farewell to the tournament with a 3-0 win against Heerenveen last night.
His quick-fire double before the break sent Tony Adams' men on the way to a comfortable success.
The 6ft 7in hitman was pleased with his efforts, but felt there were more goals in the game for him.
His double took him to 11 for the season – and he was determined to repeat that return over the second half of the campaign to ensure Pompey are involved in the competition again.
Crouch said: 'I was pleased. Scoring goals is what you are there for as a striker.
'I was pleased to get a couple, but I thought there were a few more there for me.
'It's important we had a good result. We didn't want to slide away unnoticed from the Uefa Cup and go out with a whimper.
'It was important to do that for the fans. They have enjoyed us being in Europe this season and we should have gone through.
'We want Europe next season now. If I get the same total as I've got now after Christmas that will be a health tally for me.
'It's going to be tough to get back in the Uefa Cup, there are lot of teams vying for that position. We've had a taste of teams coming to Fratton Park like AC Milan, though – now we want more of it.'
