Defoe injured in England triumph
Jermain Defoe has given Pompey an injury headache following England's glory night.
The Blues' leading scorer hobbled out of Fabio Capello's side's memorable 2-1 triumph against Germany last night.
Starting alongside team-mates David James and Glen Johnson, he was replaced at half-time in Berlin by Spurs' Darren Bent after picking up what looked to be a calf injury.
In Defoe's absence, England went on to clinch victory through skipper John Terry six minutes from time.
The 26-year-old today returned to Pompey to be fully assessed by medical staff.
But his availability remains a major concern ahead of Saturday's Fratton Park clash with Hull.
For the Blues, it was a desperately disappointing end to a night which saw four of their players represent England.
Johnson played the entire match, while James made way for Scott Carson at half-time in a tactical switch.
Peter Crouch completed the quartet when he entered the field in the 90th minute in place of Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Of the four, Johnson in particular caught the eye in the absence of Capello's regular right-back Wes Brown, who was out injured.
The 24-year-old was considered an injury doubt himself in the build-up after suffering bone bruising to a knee against West Ham at the weekend.
But he brushed off concerns to impress in a right-sided partnership with the lively Wright-Phillips.
Meanwhile, Carson did little to convince he is James' long-term replacement at international level following a dreadful mix-up with Terry to gift Patrick Helmes a 63rd-minute equaliser.
Defoe's opening 45 minutes were largely overshadowed by strike partner Gaby Agbonlahor, making his England senior debut.
