Double injury boost for Blues

Paul Hart received a double injury boost with news that neither Frederic Piquionne or Steve Finnan picked up serious problems in the 4-0 win over Wigan.

Republic of Ireland defender Finnan limped off shortly before half-time with a groin problem after only recently recovering from a hamstring strain that kept him out for the early part of the season.

But there was more concern for Piquionne after he was stretchered off with his head in a brace just before the hour mark following an awkward fall.

Thankfully, neither player's injury is serious and Hart is hopeful both will be in contention for next weekend's trip to Blackburn.

Hart said: 'Fred took a knock on the back of the neck and he was startled for a little while, but he's fine.

'Steve picked up a bit of a strain in the groin area.

'He doesn't think it's too bad, but we will have to give it time to settle down to see how it is.'

With Tal Ben-Haim switching to right-back and Nadir Belhadj enjoying a steady game at left-back, fellow sub Kanu also made an important contribution by winning the late penalty.

He said: 'Kanu made an impact when he came on. I just wish I'd had him 20 years ago.

'I saw him play for Ajax when he was younger. He has got great class, he's a great bloke to have around the place and he did tremendously well when he went on.

'Steve Finnan has done great for us lately, but Nadir came on and is defending better than ever.

'I know he made a couple of mistakes earlier this season, but we've been working with him every day and there has been a massive improvement.'
