I'll give 'crazy' Pompey fans plenty to shout about

Prince Boateng prepared for his bow in front of Pompey's 'crazy' fans and vowed: I'll prove my class.

The 22-year-old is determined to prove his worth to Blues supporters following his 4m arrival from Spurs.

Boateng put pen to paper on a three-year deal as he became one of 13 new names to arrive at Fratton Park over the summer.

The dual nationality German-Ghanaian found chances hard to come by after moving to White Hart Lane in 2007, making just 10 appearances for the Londoners.

One of the first of those came on a visit to Fratton Park in 2007 when his side picked up a 1-0 victory.

The memory of the atmosphere created by the home supporters has stuck with Boateng since that day.

Now he can't wait to perform in front of a Blues following at its intimidating best, and prove a point to one or two people along the way.

Boateng: 'I think for me it's a great move. I'm very happy.

'The second Tottenham game I started was at Fratton Park.

'I know the crowd is crazy and they just need us to win.

'I remember I nearly scored but David James saved it. I remember the crowd were just crazy.

'When you see the quality in training, we have a lot of players with experience, a lot of young players.

'They want to show they are hungry so I know we just need to stick together and show we are a real team.

'I couldn't really show it at Spurs – now is my time to show the people.'

It's been a bleak start to the season for Pompey under boss Paul Hart, with four defeats on the bounce leaving them rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Boateng has looked on at events from afar, but has no concerns about the quality of the side he is joining. The former German under-21 international has total belief the Blues will soon be upwardly mobile.

He admits he is looking forward to featuring regularly for an English side after his Spurs frustrations.

And he promises he is ready to hit the ground running – starting against Bolton next weekend in a match many Pompey fans are considering a 'must-win' to get the club's campaign up and running.

Boateng said: 'I know Ports-mouth is a great club. I saw the games and I saw the potential but something was missing so I said "okay I will just try to help".

'I will give 100 per cent, I will give my best for the club. With the new signings together we can stick together and win some games.

'It's never good for a player to maybe sit on a bench or not get involved.

'It was a tough time for me at Spurs. I always train hard and give my best but it didn't work out. You just have to get a new chance to show what you can do.

'I had the whole pre-season with Spurs.

'I never really had the chance to show what I can do, and I hope I can get the chance at Portsmouth now and show people.'
