Jamo insists there's no doom and gloom at Pompey

David James believes Pompey have nothing to fear in the January transfer window and today insisted: There is no air of depression at Fratton Park.

With club owner Sacha Gaydamak eager to end his involvement with Pompey, and reports suggesting some worryingly high club debts, some national newspapers still believe there will be a firesale of the club's top players during the transfer window.

Although Lassana Diarra has completed his move to Real Madrid and Jermain Defoe has now returned to Spurs, James has already dismissed talk of his own departure, and believes any departing players will be replaced.

James said: 'They've been talking about players leaving since October when Harry left.

'But it's certainly not all doom and gloom as far as we're concerned – far from it.

'Some players might leave – that's the nature of football.

'But the club will have to replace them and we'll see where we are at the end of January rather than worry too much about it.'

Speculation surrounding some of Pompey's top players has reached fever pitch in recent weeks, with some inaccurately suggesting Glen Johnson was on his way to Liverpool.

But James has not been distracted by the newspaper stories.

He said: 'I suppose the speculation is going to happen because there is all this talk about supposed mounting debts and everything else.

'Lassana Diarra went just before the window and the money going into the spending pot will raise speculation on who will come in.

'There will always be speculation about who will be going as well, but every club is in the same boat.

'We just get on with the job. It doesn't affect us.'
