Jordan next for Pompey
Steve Cotterill will make Stephen Jordan his next Pompey signing.
And Jamie Ashdown is also poised to follow as the Blues boss makes full use of the Football League's special dispensation.
Ibrahima Sonko this week became the first recruit of Cotterill's regime, signing on a season-long loan from Stoke.
Jordan will be joining him in the defensive ranks, possibly as soon as this weekend.
Formerly at Burnley with Cotterill, he has been earmarked for the left-back slot, with Hermann Hreidarsson unlikely to return to action much before Christmas.
At present, that leaves the manager with just one remaining slot in his squad of 20.
With Liam O'Brien as the sole goalkeeper in the squad, that puts Ashdown in the frame as he looks to win a new contract.
Cotterill will give him tomorrow's final pre-season friendly against Fulham before making up his mind.
Regardless, his squad is steadily growing.
He said: 'Stephen was not ready to play against Bournemouth after nicking his calf.
'But, in the meantime, that calf won't stop me going ahead with a permanent signing.
'We need numbers, we absolutely need numbers, so hopefully he will be okay and he might be signed by the weekend.
'With Jamie, I just want to make sure he is okay. He knows the score. I've told him I want to look at him over the three games.
'He has done fantastically well and it will be nice for him to perhaps be number one and not sat on his backside.
'He has trained like a Trojan and come back and looks in great shape. He just needs games.'
