Kaboul: We refuse to take Cup lightly

Younes Kaboul insists there is no danger of Pompey throwing in the towel on the FA Cup to concentrate on Premier League survival.

Former Blues boss Harry Redknapp – who led Pompey to Cup glory last season – has come under criticism for admitting he will field a weakened side for Spurs' Cup clash at Manchester United so his side can focus on league survival.

But Kaboul, who is set to retain his place in central midfield for Pompey's fourth-round clash with Swansea City tomorrow, is adamant the Blues will not follow suit, despite far from being out of the relegation picture themselves.

Instead, the France under-21 international is eager to share the kind of experiences his team-mates enjoyed in the famous Cup success last season.

Kaboul said: 'We can do something in the FA Cup. We won it last season and we want to go to the final again.

'I won the Carling Cup with Tottenham last season so why not the FA Cup this season as well? Everyone in the team wants to go to the final. We proved against Bristol City we have a good mentality.

'I'm really excited to play in the FA Cup this year.

'It's important to me because I won the French cup in 2005 with Auxerre, then I won the Carling Cup last year and now I want to win the FA Cup. It's only this one I don't have!'

Having seen their Uefa Cup campaign end at the group stage, Kaboul admits Pompey's players are placing even more significance on this year's FA Cup quest.

He added: 'Everyone here thinks about the FA Cup because we've been knocked out of the Uefa Cup and the Premier League is a little bit difficult at the moment.'
