Lampitt leaves Pompey
AXED David Lampitt
Pompey’s chief executive David Lampitt has left the club.
The move comes six days after Pompey were placed into administration by the High Court.
Staff were told this afternoon that Mr Lampitt had left along with his fellow board members John Redgate and Nick Byrom.
IN total 30 people have been made redundant.
Remaining members of staff were today also learning of their fate as administrator Trevor Birch looks to cut costs.
They were told by e-mail last night to turn up to Fratton Park today to discover their futures.
In today’s News, Birch had warned ‘sacrifices’ would have to be made to ensure the club survived to the end of the season.
A staff member today said: ‘It was a bit of a shock when we were told by David he was leaving.
‘A lot of other staff are worried about their jobs. It is an awful time for everyone at the club.’
The departure comes Mr Lampitt’s belief that he would survive the club’s second administration in three years.
After talks with administrator Trevor Birch following the High Court case last Friday, he said: ‘I absolutely see my long-term future being with Portsmouth Football Club, to get the club to where we are today after what happened in 2010 and with everything that has been going on in the background recently is quite an achievement.’
Bill Gillon, from Pompey On Line, said: ‘It’s unfortunate, but it’s not a surprise.
‘The club needs to cut costs and Lampitt is probably one of the highest earners outside of play, so for that reason he would always be one of the first to be looked at along with the other directors.
‘He has done a decent enough job at the club under difficult circumstances, but it needs to cut costs and this is the sort of thing that will happen.’
Bob Beech, from SOS Pompey, said: ‘I’m not surprised, it’s just one of those things. I think as soon the club went into administration there was no need for a CEO because effectively Trevor Birch is running the club now.
‘I’ve had a few run-ins with Lampitt in the past but every time I’ve met him he’s been a thoroughly professional bloke.
‘There was probably a few mistakes that these three directors made, and I’m sure they’d be the first to admit that, so it’s inevitable that new directors would be brought in to help the club move forward into the future.
‘I wish them all well in whatever endeavours they go into.’

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 06:19 AMNot surprised about Lampitt he really was useless in most departments although I believe he was honest and thats something when it comes to PFC. Would be reat to rid ourselves of Chanarais 17 million but I am not so sure that will be easy as AA will see to that . We must get rid of evry single overpaid player and accept relegation and start all over.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 09:16 PMWell boys seems like we all got the same standard reply from the FL as mine read identically to those published on here. Still treating the fans with total contempt then no surprise there then

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 08:41 PMGood riddance. Limptwit has done absolutely NOTHING for our club except look smug and hide under ther duvet when the news was bad. He has overseen a shambles of dubious transactions during his tenure and left his manager flailing in the wind during the most diffcult of times. He should be fine as some accountants lackey. Or a yes-man for another Chainrai character. So much for all those who claimed he had 'played a blinder' for us. Seems the man without the blinkers on doesn't agree. Thank you Mr Birch for beginning to cut the cancer out of our club.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 08:21 PMHeard on the radio that if the court ordered the sell of the club Chanrai would get little or nothing.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 07:34 PMHad to happen. Clear out the board next due to collective incompetance. Sack the finance director as the person obviously dosen't know how to prepare a cashflow forecast. If he does and nobody listens then his opinion is worthless. He should shout louder. Sack everybody who are aware of all the wrongdoings at the club and either choose not to change things or can't change things. Why do we have 30 players listed but only 14 can play? Can't all be injured! - Kitson aside I could go on for hours and I probaly will, but I'd rather put some joy back in this town called Portsmouth.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 07:28 PMMake no mistake about it we have been caught in the crossfire between two feuding parties with the FL the rather dumb unwitting accomplice.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 07:16 PMListening to the Meridian news tonight something was mentioned about Chanrai supposed 17 million devalued . Very interesting statement taking into account that Chanrai offered half a million to keep AA as Pompeys administrator . This Birch fella could be digging up a big can of worms , i like the fella he tells it as it is even though its not good reading . Not like the last bunch of clowns .
