Pompey 'accept' £18.5m bid for Johnson
Pompey have reportedly accepted an £18.5m bid from Liverpool for Glen Johnson.
The Blues are believed to have agreed a fee for the right-back after talks with the Merseyside club last night.
However, Pompey have yet to confirm the bid. And Peter Storrie revealed yesterday afternoon no offers had been tabled before flying out to Israel to meet owner Sacha Gaydamak.
Chelsea – Johnson's preferred choice – made a similar bid to bring the England international back to Stamford Bridge, less than two years after selling him to Pompey.
But it has been reported that sources at the London club have indicated their interest has waned.
With Johnson keen for Champions League football, that leaves Liverpool in pole position for his signature despite interest from Manchester City, who haven't qualified for Europe next season.
The Merseysiders will fund the deal using the 7m they are still owed by Pompey for Peter Crouch, who left Anfield for the Blues last summer.
Johnson has just enjoyed a fabulous season for Pompey, but is keen to leave to push for major honours.
Despite the ongoing due diligence process for the proposed takeover of Sulaiman Al Fahim, Pompey can still buy and sell players.
