Pompey's nine-point deduction confirmed
Pompey's nine-point deduction has been confirmed by the Premier League.
The penalty was expected to be handed out after the club went into administration, even though administrator Andrew Andronikou and boss Avram Grant were hopeful that the punishment could be avoided.
But Premier League officials met today to ratify the sanction, which effectively relegates the club to the Championship.
Pompey now stand on 10 points - 17 from safety with just nine games left this season.
In an offical statement the Premier League said: 'Following the High Court's decision that Portsmouth FC's administration is valid the Premier League Board convened today to apply the League's rules and policies in relation to a member club suffering an event of insolvency.
'As a result Portsmouth FC has been deducted nine points with immediate effect.
'As part of this process the Board met with the Administrator to agree how we will work together for the remainder of the season to ensure that the club is able fulfil its commitments.'
