Pompey set for deadline day departure drama

Pompey are today braced for a frenetic deadline day of departures.
That looks set to begin with the exit of Ryan Williams – believed to be against the wishes of the club and boss Michael Appleton.
However, Andrew Andronikou, administrator for former owners Convers Sports Initiatives, insisted the final say over all departures rests with Blues directors.
Ipswich remain on the trail of Joel Ward, Stephen Henderson and Jason Pearce, although Tractor Boys boss Paul Jewell is now doubtful he will land all three players.
Dave Kitson has also been linked with a move but suitors Brighton appear to be out of the equation after landing Sam Vokes on loan from Wolves.
Williams is today expected to seal a £500,000 move to Fulham, after appearing in a trial match last night for the Premier League outfit.
Andronikou suggested there wouldn’t be a mass deadline day exodus and was adamant chief executive David Lampitt had the final say on sales, along with his directors.
But with Pompey not being able to pay their staff and players their January wages after having their bank account frozen – on top of a £1.6m tax bill still to be paid – player sales look inevitable.
Andronikou said: ‘I am advising the board (over exits). They have absolute control. I’m advising them.
‘David Lampitt is the CEO and the three directors – him, John Redgate and the commercial director (Nick Byrom) – have the final say.
‘I understand the (Ryan Williams) deal came from an intermediary. A Premier League club have shown an interest in the player and you have to be fair to that player.
‘The money will be used for the club’s working capital requirement and to pay off legacy debts. I understand there is other interest in players, which has been reported in the press. But I don’t expect many deals to be done. The market is stagnant.
‘My ultimate goal is to make sure we bring stability to the club and secure it’s long-term future. Players come and go. But in terms of transfers, I don’t envisage much movement.’
The only possible arrivals at Pompey today are West Brom pair Joe Mattock and George Thorne on loan.
Ipswich have been in negotiations with Andronikou in an effort to raid Pompey for Ward, Pearce and Henderson before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Grant Leadbitter and Damien Delaney were both mentioned as makeweights after Ipswich last week registered a £1.75m bid for the trio.
Jewell says that isn’t the case and is now uncertain of what deals can be completed.
Jewell said: ‘I never mentioned any of our players going there (Pompey). As far as I am aware, there has been no contact or no enquiries about Grant or Damien.
‘It is not dead (the bid for Pearce, Ward and Henderson). By the sounds of it, it will probably be difficult to get all three.
‘He (Pearce) says he hasn’t asked to move and he is a Portsmouth player so he is entitled to say that. I wouldn’t read too much into that, one way or another.’

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 06:31 PMBlueL.... We are obviously in the wrong game...The terms of the transfer saw Manchester United agree a two-year deal in which Tévez's registration was leased by the club while his economic rights were retained by his third-party owners. Manchester United paid £3-4 million a year for Tévezâs commercial and football rights for the duration of the lease and secured the first option on a permanent transfer.............In September 2009 Tévez signed for Manchester City in a deal removing him from third-party ownership sometimes reported as being worth £47 million to the companies owning his economic rights,[44] although that amount was disputed by KJ who called the story "inaccurate and misleading".....I think the crooks are everywhere in football....not just Fratton Park......£3 to£4 million a year just to keep the Rights going. ...You almost think to yourself it would be easier to amalgamate with Havant and start in the Conference South and have no crooks on board just local business people.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 06:13 PMBlue Shoes - I wonder... What I found was only this, on a blog called shinguardian - "upon his “purchase” by Manchester United what United actually received was a “lease” of Tevez registration while the economic rights were still held by Tevez’s third party owners." But it goes on that "In 2009, Tevez’s deal with Manchester City removed (and by decision paid off) the ownership of his third party bosses, to the rumoured amount of 47 million pounds (although Joorabchian has disputed this amount saying it was much less)." - Also "a new investment fund has just been set up by the former Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon and Ronaldo’s and Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes to invest in the economic rights of players." - I'm pretty sure we don't know everything that's going on.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 05:59 PMBlueLagoon....So is this the real reason why Tevez is not playing in the PL anymore..ie there is a restriction on how his contract is run or possibly on tax arrangements? and it is easier for him to operate in Europe than int the PL? ie the legacy has run dry for him here in England. It' s interesting how JK states there are other players who are on "hidden schemes".....Football is so corrupt.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 05:41 PM163, me too, Blue Shoes, confusing - the article says it's banned but also that it happens... BBC Sport says "Third-party ownership is a practice banned in England but prevalent in South America and parts of Europe." Also (another BBC piece) that "The prohibition on third-party ownership also applies to all Football League clubs and last season QPR were fined nearly £1m for breaching regulations in the 2009 signing of Alejandro Faurlin." But Lawyer Guy Thomas said: "It's fair to question whether the Premier League rules on this could be shown to be restrictive."

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 05:07 PMBlueLagoon. If you keep reading that article, it goes on to Ramires in 2010....... In June 2010 it was reported that KJ had secured a 50% share in the Brazilian midfielder Ramires,[25] then at Benfica but subject to transfer interest from across Europe, led by Chelsea in the English Premier League.[26][27] The deal was reportedly part of an agreement reached with Benfica president LFV the previous year at the time of Ramires's transfer to Benfica from Cruzeiro in Brazil.[26] A further 30% of the player's rights were reportedly owned by KJ's associate PZ (the well known super agent)........ Ramires completed his move to Chelsea on 13 August 2010 on a four year contract for a reported fee of £17million.[29] It is thought that KJ would receive £6m of this fee.[30]......In other words it goes on beyond the 2008.09 season. I find this all rather confusing

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 04:38 PM158 Johnny - I don't know. -- "In June 2008 the English Premier League drafted new rules L34 and L35 to outlaw any type of third party ownership of players from the beginning of the 2008-9 season." -- Similarly at other levels, I thought, at least in Britain. Is Tevez a legacy situation, maybe?

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 04:14 PMp141 BlueLagoon. How does Tevez's agent manage it then? From Wiki. He (KJ) is also involved in the 'third-party' ownership of players, describing himself as an investment manager. In October 2008, he said, "I manage the investment group and obviously when the investment group is profitable, as fund manager, you also get a cut".[4] In 2009 it was reported that the unnamed investors represented by KJ were understood to own the economic rights to 60 or 70 players across Europe and South America.[3]

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 04:09 PMMattyC....as you know, i am naive in regard to business matters, but when i first married, i used to put any spare cash away ...for a rainy day,.... couldn't something like that have been done by Pompey, as i said somewhere else...say a pound out of the match fee drops into a standby fund to get us over problems such as those we have at present.....or is that plain stupid....

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 03:53 PMThose were the days section: -- "The man who has been running the finances at Fratton Park says he prays every day that the club survives.... Daniel Azougy said: 'I just attended one meeting. In order to save the club I said we should sell some players. If not there would be no club. At this stage no bank is willing to supply any funds. I have not been involved (in the transfers). I just attended one meeting. It was obvious the club must do something to stop the petition of the revenue.'" --- Sound familiar? All less than two years ago.
