Pompey snap up Basinas
Pompey have made Greek captain Angelos Basinas their latest transfer window recruit.
As exclusively revealed on portsmouth.co.uk earlier today, the AEK Athens midfielder has penned an 18-month contract at Fratton Park.
Aged 33, Basinas was a long-term target of Harry Redknapp during both his spells as manager on the south coast.
He will now finally arrive at Fratton Park in a bid to help the Blues climb free of relegation trouble.
Basinas current has 97 caps for his county, scoring seven times, and is an international team-mate of yesterday's recruit Theofanis Gekas.
Basinas has made 15 appearances for Athens this season after joining from Real Mallorca in the summer.
He began his career with Panathinaikos, helping them win the league in 1996 and the league and cup double in 2004.
The deal bringing him to Pompey includes an option for a further year on top of the 18 months.
