Primus close to new Pompey role
Linvoy Primus wants to be Pompey 'til he dies. And it looks as if the huge fans' favourite is set to be granted his wish.
Primus has made it clear he wants to remain at Fratton Park, either on the pitch or off it, with his current deal up at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old has already revealed to The News his thoughts on his future and how he would like to work for the club in an ambassadorial role.
Blues executive chairman Peter Storrie has indicated he is willing to offer him that position when he decides to hang up his boots.
That has delighted the man who has made 218 appearances for the club he joined in 2000.
And Primus has revealed there has been progress on that front.
The former player of the year is hopeful an agreement can be reached when Pompey's Premier League destiny becomes clearer in the coming days.
Primus is delighted at the positive noises being made, but explained he isn't going to take anything for granted.
He said: 'We're working on things at the moment.
'I want to be here long term.
'Things are changing in my life and I'm getting older.
'But I want to be around the club still.
'Once we're safe things will be sorted out.
'I'm sure that I will be here in some way.
'This is home for me.
'The general feeling is once we're safe, we'll know what is going to happen.
'It was good to hear Peter say he wants to arrange something, but you don't know things are finalised until you see them on paper.
'It was nice for him to say that.
'Hopefully, we can get our place in the Premier League sorted and then we can sort things out.'
The season has been a strange one for Primus as he heads towards the final days of his career.
After a year out with a knee injury, the Londoner benefited from a period on loan at former club Charlton earlier in the campaign.
Primus made 10 appearances while with the Addicks, before returning to Fratton at the turn of the year.
Harry Redknapp departed while he was away at the Valley, and Tony Adams then made way for Paul Hart after failing to make a positive impression.
He has had to be content with reserve-team football, but his appearance on the bench in the recent clash against Arsenal was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing day for the Blues.
The future appears to be more about what takes place off the pitch than on it now for Primus.
He is determined that whatever happens, he will be remaining in this area now, after well and truly becoming an adopted Pompey boy.
Primus said: 'The aim this season was to get fit by going out on loan.
'But then Harry left and then Tony left.
'Things have been up in the air, but what Peter has come out and said makes me and my family very happy.
'Ultimately, I'm thinking of them.
'I don't want to go elsewhere now. I'm here for life, whether I play here or live here.
