Primus to return with a point to prove
Linvoy Primus will return to Pompey next week bidding to prove he has a Fratton Park future.
The popular defender's three-month Charlton loan spell ends on Monday following their clash with Derby.
He has featured in 10 matches for the Addicks in his pursuit of gaining priceless match fitness following a year out.
Now the Blues legend will return home in the hope of catching Tony Adams' eye.
As one of 15 players out of contract this summer, it represents the crucial chance for Primus to extend his south-coast stay.
And should he not succeed in convincing the new boss, Pompey's longest-serving player will be leaving come the season's end.
The 35-year-old arrived at the club in the summer of 2000 when Tony Pulis was manager.
Since then he has gone on to rack up 218 appearances and net six goals.
His gutsy displays, fighting spirit and superb rapport with the fans have undoubtedly established him as a true Fratton hero.
Primus fought back from a career-threatening knee injury to win a fresh one-year deal in the summer, securing his ninth campaign with the club.
Charlton then handed him the chance to prove his fitness in August with the offer of a three-month loan spell.
Now he faces a battle to persuade Adams he is worthy of a new deal to keep him at Fratton Park.
Meanwhile, England under-21 defender Martin Cranie is scheduled to remain at The Valley until the end of the month.
The versatile defender, who lined up in the 2-1 defeat against Coventry last night, has made 15 appearances during his loan spell.
His final match will be a trip to Sheffield United on December 28.
