Robins sign James

Bristol City have signed former Pompey keeper David James on a one-year deal.

The Robins unveiled the England international today after James passed a medical.

The former Blues stopper has penned a one-year deal, with an option for a further year.

James left Pompey two weeks ago after failing to agree a new deal at Fratton Park.

Pompey decided to pull the plug on contract negotiations with the keeper when the 39-year-old took too long to give them an answer over his future intentions.

However, after talks broke down with Celtic, there was a glimmer of hope James could return to the Blues.

That has now ended after the former Liverpool and Aston Villa man agreed to join Championship side City, who are based closer to his main home in Devon.

It means Pompey are set to come up against James, who spent four seasons at Fratton Park, in the league this season.
