Rocha closes in on Pompey return

Pompey have been handed a huge boost with news Ricardo Rocha is poised to re-sign for the club.

The News understands the Portuguese defender is close to agreeing terms with David Lampitt over a new deal and is closing in on a Blues return.

Rocha arrived at Pompey's training ground in Eastleigh this afternoon ahead of sealing a move.

He has met manager Steve Cotterill, who wanted to be convinced of his motivation to play for the Blues before giving the move the green light.

The boost is much-needed for manager Cotterill after Pompey failed to bolster numbers during a frantic transfer deadline day.

Rocha, 31, spent last season at Fratton Park and was a key performer in the team's run to the FA Cup final.

He rejected a contract at the end of the season but, after a summer as a free agent, he has had a change of heart and Pompey have enticed back to the south coast.
