Ruthless Redknapp plans Portsmouth clear-out

Harry Redknapp has vowed to carry out a Pompey cull after Friday night's victory over Swindon.

The Blues boss was unimpressed with his fringe players despite the Blues chalking up a 3-1 win at the County Ground.

Now he is planning a massive clear-out to fund the signing of the three summer transfer targets he has in his sights.

Redknapp believes he needs to cut his squad by up to six men to cover their arrivals.

That leaves the likes of Djimi Traore, Sean Davis, Richard Hughes, Martin Cranie and Richard Duffy with their futures in doubt.

Speculation also continues to persist over moves away from Fratton Park for David Nugent and Noe Pamarot.

Redknapp admitted Shaun Wright-Phillips remains a key transfer target with the new Premier League season four weeks away.

He gave a brutally frank assessment of the resources at his disposal.

Redknapp felt the clash with Robins summed up the difference between

the haves and have-nots in his squad.

He said: 'I didn't think we kept the ball very well or kept control of the game.

'What you find when you look at the squad is we have some very good players.

'But when they don't play and you have to mess things around, there is a problem.

'When you take the best group out it becomes hard work.

'I think there is a big gap between the best players and the rest.

'You look at some of the players and think "I hope I don't have to play him".

'I'd be a liar if I said otherwise.

'There are some fringe players who are not going to play. They need to move.

'They have to do that and, and if they do, it may give me the money to go and get a Shaun Wright-Phillips.

'Someone has to want to buy them. If we get offers they can go. We've had no offers so far.

'I like Shaun very much. He'd be a good player for us.

'I think he and his dad think it would be a good idea for him to come and play for us. He would be terrific for us.

'If I get the three we want we will be strong. If five or six leave it will suit me fine.

'That's what I need to sell to get them. We'll see how it goes.'

Redknapp (right) has revealed he is keen on bringing trialist OJ Krumah to Pompey on a permanent basis.

Krumah made his second pre-season appearance against the League One side last night, and again impressed.

Redknapp is now keen to sort a deal to bring the Gambian to the club.

He said: 'He looks all right. He's got something. He's only young, though.

'I think he is an interesting young player.

'There could be something there. He's done well this week. He looked good in training.

'He's not ready to play in the Premier League – but in the future he could be.

'I think he was at Southampton last year and couldn't get a work permit, but he has got married to someone here since then.'
