Striker close to sealing new deal
Kanu today pledged his future to Pompey and insisted: I'm going nowhere.
The veteran striker will be out of contract come midnight tonight when his existing deal comes to a end.
However, unlike fellow free agents Sol Campbell and Sean Davis, he is well on course to stay at Fratton Park.
Davis will be unveiled as a Bolton player within the next 48 hours after turning down the offer of a three-year Pompey deal.
Meanwhile, Campbell's future is in doubt, with negotiations still to resume following initial discussions.
Kanu, though, is all set to remain.
The former Arsenal man earned a 12-month extension after triggering a clause based on appearances in last year's deal.
He is now in talks with Peter Storrie to rubber-stamp that agreement and stay at Fratton Park for a fourth season.
And despite interest from other clubs, Kanu's legal representative, Samuel Okoronkwo, has revealed his client is close to remaining on the south coast.
He said: 'I fully expect Kanu to be playing at Portsmouth next season.
'I can confirm that we are currently in negotiations with Peter Storrie and are making good progress. I am hoping at the close of play he will be here.
'There was interest from elsewhere, although I am not at liberty to name them.
'But Portsmouth holds his interest and he is willing to show his loyalty to the club and stay longer. This is where he wants to be.
'He has given so much to Portsmouth.
'He has played a big part in the club's progress and, of course, the FA Cup success.
'A lot of the young players also look to him for advice – which he enjoys – so if it's not broke why bother fixing it.
'He has developed an attachment and would love to stay here. He has made a connection with the fans, too.
'The negotiations are progressing very comfortably.
'There are not any differences and, hopefully, it can be completed sufficiently without inconveniencing anyone.'
While Kanu looks set to stay, Campbell's future is in the balance.
The Blues skipper has been offered a reduced deal based on appearances rather than a basic wage as Peter Storrie attempts to bring the wage bill down.
Pompey's executive chairman told The News two weeks ago talks had taken place – but a contract had yet to be offered.
However, he expects negotiations to resume once the holidays are over.
In the meantime, Campbell has been linked with moves to Greek side Atromitos, Saint Etienne and Basel.
Meanwhile, Arnold Mvuemba is training with Lorient ahead of a possible move to the French club this summer.
