The contenders for Pompey manager: Glenn Hoddle

Some will tell you an old-school manager is what Pompey need after Harry Redknapp's departure.

A man to throw the tea cups around, someone who can shake players into action if they don't perform to expectations.

But for my money, a more subtle approach is now required as Pompey evolve into a new beast in the post-Redknapp era.

Now he may not necessarily be widely popular with the really hardcore element of supporters after his previous successful spell down the road.

And yes, he'd be considered something of a wild card of a selection that would require a major leap of faith by some.

But tactically, he certainly knows his onions. He's played at the very highest level and he's also managed at the top of the football tree.

He would command instant respect among the players for what he's achieved in the game, he's currently running his own academy and develops young talent as well as extracting the best from those at the other end of the age scale.

And he'd also attract quality players to the club.

Tony Adams and Joe Jordan are vital members of the coaching structure, but if I was Sacha, I'd be making a phone call to Glenn Hoddle.
