The contenders for Pompey manager: Tony Adams

Apparently, great leaders will arise when there is a great need.

Well now is the time for Tony Adams to come to the front and prove he can lead Portsmouth Football Club on to the next level.

As a player he was a great leader of men, a highly-respected figure and inspiration to his team-mates.

As a coach, his Pompey impact has been just as massive, the driving force behind the scenes during what has undoubtedly been two-and-a-bit golden years down at Fratton Park.

Two top-10 finishes, a clean sheet club record, the FA Cup and Europe have all occurred with Adams standing by Harry Redknapp's side. Unquestionably it's not a coincidence.

A deep thinker of the game, the former England skipper is a passionate student brimming with fresh ideas and novel concepts on football.

He's studied coaching in Holland, cut his teeth in League Two and is now in his third season of studying Redknapp at close quarters.

Sam Allardyce would certainly be a good choice, while Sacha Gaydamak may favour compatriot Avram Grant – yet Adams would represent the perfect choice.

The ex-Arsenal man represents continuity, possessing the respect of the players and a knowledge for the club which can keep it on the right track.

They say leaders are born and not made. Tony Adams is undoubtedly a leader.
