The King moves Pompey closer to safety

Pompey's hopes of avoiding relegation were given a major boost after they earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park.

Kanu's winner – who seemed to get the slightest touch from Nadir Belhadj's corner 12 minutes from time – was enough to earn all three points as the Blues turned in a battling display and took a deserved victory.

The win lifts Pompey further clear of relegation danger and takes Paul Hart's men to within touching distance of Premier League safety.

The only low point for the Blues was the ankle injury to Niko Kranjcar, who was taken off on a stretcher.

The win, though, was no more than Pompey deserved after dominating the game and looking like the only side who were capable of scoring.

Glen Johnson was denied three times in the first half, but it was the hosts who registered a vital three points in the battle to beat the drop.
