Utaka dealt Wolfsburg blow

John Utaka has suffered more European agony after being ruled out of the trip to Wolfsburg.

Injury forced the Nigerian winger to miss the AC Milan classic and the visit to Vitoria Guimaraes earlier in Pompey's Uefa Cup campaign.

Now a hip complaint has sidelined him for tomorrow's crucial visit to Germany.

The 26-year-old has a problem with one of the muscles at the top of his hip, sustained in the 2-2 draw with Hull.

And, despite returning to running yesterday, he is not expected to come back to full training before next week.

It means Utaka will be absent from Tony Adams' plans for a match which could decide their Uefa Cup fate.

There's brighter news, however, over Sol Campbell and Younes Kaboul.

Campbell, who has missed the past four matches with a toe injury, was able to take part in a light session with his team-mates yesterday for the first time.

He had previously spent last week running outside and is in the frame to feature against Wolfsburg.

Kaboul was left with a painful shin after stretching his ankle against AC Milan, but scans have revealed there is no long-term concern.

Pompey's medical staff are now waiting for the soreness to settle before the next course of action, but the Frenchman has an outside chance of returning.
