Wilkinson heads reserve exit list

LUKE WILKINSON heads the list of reserve-team players released by Pompey.

The former Bristol City defender had been a regular for Guy Whittingham's side this season.

He made 10 appearances, including the past five matches of the season when he netted in the 2-2 West Leigh Park draw with Wolves.

The 19-year-old was also loaned to Northampton, while later enjoyed regular football during a temporary spell at Eastleigh.

But the Blues have decided against extending Wilkinson's stay and he leaves after one-and-a-half years at Fratton Park.

Joining him out the Pompey exit is full-back Tero Mantlya.

The Finish under-19 international made nine appearances for the reserves, scoring against Wolves in the opening game of the season.

Goalkeeper Tommy Smith and central defender Callum Reynolds have also not been retained.

Smith shared Academy keeping duties with Liam O'Brien last season, making 13 appearances.

However, O'Brien's rapid development, which has taken him to England under-19 recognition, has seen him emerge as Pompey's leading young stopper.

Reynolds was brought to the club from Rushden & Diamonds in the summer of 2007 by Paul Hart after arriving as youth director.

The 20-year-old went on to feature for Basingstoke on loan two years ago, while he also had a spell at Luton last season.

Elsewhere, Paris Cowan-Hall has been awarded a month-by-month deal as he recovers from injury.

The 19-year-old striker featured for Pompey in last year's pre-season programme, starting against Guimaraes and netting against Eastleigh.

Yet he has been troubled be injury and returned early from a loan spell at Grimsby at the end of last term.

Completing the list is Australian striker Ryan Gazet du Chattelier, who has been offered a month-by-month contract following injury.
