Primus burning bright again but Blues are held by Exeter

Linvoy Primus made his Pompey return in the Blues' 1-1 draw with Exeter.

Pompey put 14 months of injury frustration behind him to make a second-half appearance in the Blues' opening pre-season outing at Exeter.

But there was no Peter Crouch at St James' Park, with the striker building up his fitness after his 11m arrival from Liverpool.

Crouch is set for a 45 minute outing instead at Swindon on Friday.

Pompey looked bright in the first-half and took the lead through Jermain Defoe's ninth-minute penalty.

But it was a different story after the break as the new Football League side came into the game.

They got an equaliser two minutes after the restart through Rob Edwards.

The match was ruined as a spectacle by the number of substitutions which ruined any flow to the game.

A staggering 44 players were used thoughout the course of the match.

Two of those were Pompey trialists. Gambian OJ Krumah looked fairly sharp up front before being moved to the flank.

Young American Dominic Cervis had a couple of shaky moments after replacing David James in goal at half-time.
