A decade on from her glorious double Olympic success, Dame Kelly Holmes is certainly not taking it easy.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of her famous triumph in Athens in 2004.

She completed an historic middle-distance double, with golds in the 800m and 1,500m.

Now she’s taking on a totally new challenge to celebrate her golden moments – doing a duathlon every month in 2014.

It was this mission that saw her pitch up in Southsea, bright and early on Sunday morning.

She lined up alongside a field of more than 140 for the first race of Rob Piggott’s duathlon series.

Afterwards, Holmes was thrilled to have completed the latest stage of her task.

She’s feeling more and more at home with the switch to duathlons.

Holmes said: ‘I’m celebrating 10 years since I won my golds this year, so I figured that I would have my own challenge.

‘It is the first time in the nine years since I retired that I have actually put myself back through something really competitive.

‘Everyone starts New Year’s resolutions and normally gives them up in January.

‘So I thought “I will set myself a goal”.

‘And my goal was to try to do a duathlon each month.

‘It’s quite nice because I have got something else to focus on throughout the whole year.

‘I’m still in with it at the moment as well – three months, three down.’
