Sire De Grugy is set for a well-deserved Christmas holiday.
The six-year-old capped a stunning start to the season with victory in the lingfieldpark.co.uk Novices’ Chase yesterday.
Trained by Gary Moore in Lower Beeding, West Sussex, the son of My Risk only needed to be shaken up to hold off the challenge of Cantlow and justify his status as the 4/6 favourite.
Ridden to glory by Moore’s son Jamie, the success was the second of the gelding’s fledgling chasing career.
He kicked off his campaign with an eye-catching win at Kempton on his debut over fences.
Then on November 18 he was a two-length second to the highly-regarded Captain Conan in the Grade 2 Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.
Moore was slightly apprehensive about turning him out again so quickly.
But the trainer wanted to get another run – and some more experience – into his charge before giving him a break over Christmas, ready to bring him back fresh for the major chasing contests in the spring.
Well, there’s no doubt Sire De Grugy has earned that festive siesta now.
