Bridgman sees positives in spirited Gosport & Fareham display

The home side scored three tries but are still without a point at the bottom of the London one south standings.

Barry Bridgman again felt he could take a number of positives from his team’s performance.

‘I was quite pleased at the way we performed against a very good side,’ said the head coach.

‘I think they were quite shocked at the way we went at them hard from the very start.

‘We got ourselves in front in a game for the first time this season.

‘If we had got another score after that then I think things could have been a little different.

‘I don’t think we would have won the game but the margin of defeat would not have been so great.

‘Instead, we let in three soft tries.’

Wing forward Anthony Reynolds put the hosts ahead with a try after 11 minutes – with Nick Gallimore adding the conversion.

The visitors quickly responded with three tries of their own before Wes Dugan powered over for a second home score.

Two further tries saw the visitors leading 33-12 at the break.

Although Gosport shipped three more tries after the break, they ended the game on a positive note.

Stand-in fly-half Rory Penfold – the home side’s man of the match – broke away from inside his own twenty-two to score under the posts at the other end.

Gallimore added the extra points.

‘It is nice to have two weeks off now because it will give us a chance to get some of our injured players back,’ added Bridgman.

Fareham Heathens suffered their first Hampshire one defeat of the season.

The Cams Alders side went down 21-10 to visitors New Milton & District.

In Hampshire two, Locks Heath Pumas lost a competitive top of the table clash against Alton.

The Pumas were beaten 30-20 at Brookfield School.

The visitors dominated the first half to lead 17-5 at the interval.

Sami Semi scored the home side’s try.

After the break the hosts fought back to level the scores at 20-20.

However, Alton pulled away again towards the end to win the game.
