Havant travel to fellow strugglers Westcliff, looking for some respite from their torrid start to the National League Three London & south east campaign (3pm).

The Hooks Lane side find themselves bottom of the pile after enduring three thumping defeats, conceding 195 points in the process.

Just placed above them are Westcliff, who have endured a torrid opening, too, losing all three of their matches to date.

Havant director of rugby Will Knight believes it is an opportunity for his men to get off the mark.

‘It has been a difficult start for us but the players are determined to put things right,’ said Knight.

‘We had a good, honest self-evaluation at Tuesday night’s training and, hopefully, we will see the benefits this weekend.

‘Our situation isn’t helped, though, by the absence of some experienced players which means we are again unable to get any consistency in the team we are sending out.

‘To their credit, the players have kept their spirits up even though they recognise it is going to be a long, hard, difficult season.

‘They are determined to show their resilience and commitment to the battle, which is heartening from my point of view.

‘There have been plenty of areas of optimism but we need to get individuals out there on a consistent basis and attract a few more players.

‘Westcliff have also had a bad time of it so this is a game we need to get some points from.’

Scrum-half Liam Davenport, winger Chris Blackburn and Ross Parkins are all ruled out because of work commitments.
