Matt Peters was on the scoresheet as Hampshire kicked off their County Championship Shield bid with a 41-19 triumph over Middlesex at Rugby Camp.

The Portsmouth talent scored under the posts as the home side raced into a 17-0 lead in the pool four opener.

‘This was a very good performance,’ said team manager Ed Neville.

‘From every member of the side, it was excellent and now puts us in a very good position ahead of next week’s Sussex game.’

Rob Gicquel, Tom Hankey, Greg Hoolihan, Dan Sargent, Richard Farmer (all Portsmouth), Lawrence Wadham and Kieran McRoberts (both Gosport & Fareham) were also involved in the victory.
