Portsmouth were crowned county champions after beating Gosport & Fareham 16-6 in the Hampshire Cup final at Rugby Camp this afternoon.

All the points came in the opening 40 minutes with defences reigning supreme in the second half.

Portsmouth made a dream start, with full-back Curtis Barnes gathering a kick ahead to score inside the first minute.

Two Josh Whitehead penalties put Gosport & Fareham ahead midway through the half before they gifted Portsmouth a second try.

On 29 minutes, Andy Barnes missed with a penalty but when the ball bounced in the in-goal area Gosport were slow to react.

Curtis Barnes followed up to knock the ball down for outside-half Dan Neville to score.

An Andy Barnes penalty on the stroke of half-time proved to be the final score of the game as Portsmouth took the honours.
