STRONG winds prevented legendary British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston of Old Portsmouth from setting off on his highly anticipated return to solo ocean racing.

The 75-year-old was due to leave from Gosport Marina yesterday on his open 60 yacht, Grey Power, headed to St Malo ahead of the Route de Rhum race but due to the rough forecast, he decided to postpone his adventure.

Sir Knox-Johnston will be the oldest skipper competing in the 3,500-mile transatlantic race, which starts in November.

He will now depart from Gosport at midday on Wednesday.
