Dee Caffari has been shortlisted for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.

The record-breaking Titchfield yachtswoman was nominated after completing the Barcelona World Race, which also makes her the first woman to sail non-stop around the world three times.

Caffari finished sixth with the race’s first all-female crew, which included co-skipper Anna Corbella.

Caffari said: ‘I look back on the previous winners in awe.

‘To be nominated is a huge achievement.

‘To be considered alongside the other sailors who have achieved so much in their area of the sport is a great honour.

‘If I were to take the title, I would be lost for words and that does not happen very often. I would feel very humbled.’

Also shortlisted are windsurfing world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa, British Paralympic and disabled world champion Alexandra Rickham, and American ISAF Sailing World Cup champion, Anna Tunnicliffe.

Ben Ainslie has been nominated in the men’s section.

n Warsash’s Pip Hare is holding a strong third in the Charente Maritime Bahia Transat 6.50.
