Third and a fifth-place finishes weren’t much return from the first two races in Fukuoka.

But once again the team regrouped strongly, scoring back-to-back victories in the second two races to finish the day as the top points scorers.

Conditions were difficult, with the wind coming off the city – reminiscent of racing in New York and Chicago.

But it was now expected to rotate to blow from the sea and produce a more consistent 8-14 knots for tomorrow’s racing.

Sir Ben Ainslie’s Portsmouth-based side lead the standings going into the final event of the two-year series.

They enjoy a 14-point lead over Oracle Team USA.

But with 90 points on offer over the six races scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday, the fight for the title is still wide open.

Tomorrow’s races beginds at 4.30am GMT.
