James Budd lost 3-1 to debutant Ronnie Blake on the Cuestars South of England under-21 gold tour.

The Stoke Snooker Club talent, 19, had beaten Blake 2-1 in the round-robin group stages and is lying second on the EASB Regional Junior Tour South but couldn’t muster victory in the final.

Budd, from Gosport, praised his opponent at the end of a hard-fought game.

‘I would like to congratulate Ronnie on his win,’ he said.

‘He made a great clearance at the end and fully deserved the victory.’

Blake, from Carshalton, admitted it was a tricky contest against his rival.

He said: ‘Me and Budd have tough battles, so it’s good to beat him.

‘I didn’t play great, I just dug in and kept it tight.’

The seventh leg of the eight-round series is at Fareham Snooker Club on Sunday, April 12.
