Cuestars boost Peter Rook challenge

The Portsmouth outfit eased to the top of group A with their second win.

Chloe White and Rio Smith made use of their handicap starts to win both frames.

Elsewher, Waterlooville Sports A hammered Pompey Royals 11-1 at Aston Road.

Bill Phillips, Jamie Wilson, Russ Linkhorn, Craig Skeggs and Kevin Hughes made home advantage count with two apiece.

However, Colin Greenwood stopped the rot when he held Steve Wilson to a draw.

The trio of Chris Trim, Martyn Power and Chris Bishop gave Craneswater R an 8-4 at Cowplain Gas.

Paul Lees bagged a late brace for the defeated Gas side.

Copnor A are having to share the lead in group B after they were left holding on for a 6-6 draw against hosts Alexandra.

The bowlers led for long spells of the clash, with doubles by Karl Davies and Ian Cotton.

However, Mick Hall and Kevin Harding hit back.

Waterlooville C crushed Copnor D on their own tables by 9-3 and share the top spot.

Gary Wilton, Rob Derry and Darren Harper gave them a six-rack lead and the rest were shared.

Craneswater Newbies enjoyed their first outing and coasted to a 9-3 win at Bellair B.

Brad Baldwin did well for the Havant gang but Jonathon Hill, Jamie Sunderland, Archie Sargent and Dan Compton took over.

Carton and Copnor E chalked up 8-4 wins to share the leading places in group C. The Farlington outfit were happy at Cowplain C – as Jeff Oakes, Dave Francis and Barry Downer erased a Pete Gorvin success.

Copnor, meanwhile, took an easy lead through John Wyatt, Trevor Sanders and John Oldfield.

Aaron Brett was Craneswater’s best cueist.

Waterlooville B could only muster five players against Leigh Park A and were duly beaten 3-9 .

Ben Hounsome did his best to cover the shortage before Richie Burnett, Pete Ferguson and Dusty Tingley put an end to any resistance.

The latter rattled in a 59 break against Ben Tillison.

Matt Small hit a 39 as Craneswater Q held out for a 6-6 draw at Leigh Park B. Dave Easterbrook was a scorer for the Workies.

Cowplain Z made it two in a row with a 7-5 win at Broadoak to set the pace in group D.

Heath Smith, Steve Hughes and Terry Hickley made the difference, while Gerry Wheeler and Claire Branscombe served the stationsiders well.

Craneswater A gave Cowplain C a start of 235 points and managed to get over the line 7-5 with home advantage.

Kelvin Connor got two for the visitors after Tony Hansford and Mike Talmondt had got the Southsea boys of to a good start.

Copnor Xcels drew with Emsworth after all 12 players won a frame. Tony Horten’s run of 36 was the game’s best.
