Lawrence enjoys great run but Copnor suffer

DAVE LAWRENCE hit a magnificent break of 94 but finished on the losing side as Copnor C were beaten 4-3 by Craneswater A in the Portsmouth Billiards League.

Steve Lawrence also did well to shock Andy Boulton with an unfinished 51 for an eight-point win.

Rob Kirby, Mike Talmondt and Mark Kirby pulled the visitors through despite more resistance from Steve Kearn.

It was business as usual as Cowplain Jacks resumed their march to silverware in the top flight.

Copnor A were swept aside 6-1 to avenge the Cup defeat.

Heath Smith was unstoppable with visits of 49 and 36 as he beat Steve Toms before he knocked his handicap off.

Dave Rees and Mike Scott gave the runaway leaders a good start then Lee Eden pulled one back.

Jamie and Steve Wilson completed the rout to stay well clear of the rest.

Nigel Ward and Simon Petrie won the last two games to give Craneswater Z a welcome 5-2 scoreline.

Peter Rook put Copnor B ahead but ladies’ world champion Emma Bonney hit back.

Lee Paice and Stacey Wearn shared the middle two games at the expense of Den Hushley and Mark Jones respectively.

Copnor F are back in command in division two as they showed their quality.

They are flying high at the summit after an emphatic 5-2 win against Pompey Royals.

Barry Wooley gave them the lead but it was not to last too long as the Royals were pegged back.

John Wilson countered to make it 1-1.

And Gary Wilton made it 2-1 only for Paul Chivers to equalise at 2-2 as the sides continued to do battle.

Rob Derry and Gary Green then dominated the last two for victory as Copnor signalled their intent to take the division’s title.

Leigh Park went down on aggregate at Craneswater R in a ding-dong battle.

Chris Bishop opened the scoring and Danny Lumsden replied.

Andy White beat Neville Moyle but the Workies squared it with another Richard Burnett success.

Bill Parsons put the Havant gang ahead, only for Liam Melia to secure the 789-769 bonus point.

The wooden spoon tussle between Xcels and Cowplain was won by the latter.

But Cowplain are still seven adrift as they bid to close the gap and get off the foot of the table.

Doug Powell, Gary Curtis and Will Garrett were happy visitors.

They edged a 4-3 win to thwart Kev Figgins, Andy Chambers and Dave Wheeler.
