Matt finish at nationals caps stunning rise for Sullivan
The determined 14-year-old recorded a personal best of 2min 20.71sec in the final at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge.
It was an improvement of 2.3sec on the quickest time he had clocked prior to the event.

He said: ‘Matthew has had a meteoric rise through the club system.
‘In the past two years he has swiftly moved from one of the club’s lower development squads to now being in the top squad.
‘Competing at his first national event, Matthew took it all in his stride, achieving a personal best and a big improvement (1.88sec) over his previous mark set just three weeks ago.

Hide Ad‘His time was good enough to make the final of the 13/14 year age group.
‘And he again swam to a best-ever time in the final, improving by a further 0.42.
‘The coaching staff are confident others within the club can emulate his success.’
Molyneaux and assistant coach Stewart Crowe, who has recently stepped down from the lead role, have been boosted in recent weeks by the allocation of additional pool time.
