Avenue face a decisive showdown with Ryde Lawn in Portsmouth & District League ladies’ division one in Havant today.

Both teams, along with Ventnor, could still win the championship – and earn the right to represent the league against the Southampton winners in the Solent Cup.

Victories for Ventnor (4-0 over Seacourt) and Ryde Lawn (3-1 against Lee) this week kept the pressure on Avenue at the top.

A match between Avenue and Ryde Lawn is also likely to decide the destination of another title – this time the club ladies’ second division crown.

Having beaten Alverstoke last weekend, victory for Avenue II would give them the chance to snatch the title from under the noses of Warsash II next week.

In ladies’ division three, Portsmouth Tennis Academy (PTA) kept their championship hopes alive with a 4-0 win over Southsea.

While the win confirmed PTA’s rise from the fifth tier to the second in successive seasons, Seacourt II could still pip them to the title.

They won the first of two encounters with Avenue III.

Victory in the second will clinch the crown and condemn the Havant side to the drop with Southsea.

In the men’s divisions, Priory ended a mixed season with victory over Ryde Mead in the top flight, while Warsash II confirmed their place as runners up in division three by beating relegated Chichester.
