Dan Jones has backed Seacourt’s ‘fearless four’ to show their worth in today’s Dedanists Foundation Cup showdown at Radley.

Talented quartet, Huw Thomas, Max Jones, William Flynn and Elliott Cotton, will all be in action for the Hayling Island-based team at Abbingdon as they bid to secure a place in July’s inaugural final.

And coach Jones believes event organisers, Dedanists Foundation, have a lot to be thanked for as his side bids to become the first names on their prestigious trophy.

He explained: ‘In real tennis, there are a group of gentlemen who support the sport called the Dedanists Foundation.

‘Concentrating on grassroots tennis, they have put lots of things together to aid coaching for juniors all the way through the stages.

‘And now the boys are at quite a high level of real tennis they have put together a national league, so Seacourt competes against the likes of Hampton Court and Petworth, and all these other clubs.

‘We are off to Radley today – Huw Thomas, Max Jones, William Flynn, Elliott Cotton are going to play in Abbingdon.

‘They will play singles and doubles off handicap and then if they win that they will go through to the final in July of the Dedanists Foundation Cup, down in Prested, Colchester.’

All products of Seacourt’s junior structure, Jones admits he is in awe of the progress made by the youngsters at the club.

‘What’s amazing about these guys is that they are so confident,’ he said.

‘In our junior structure, we start off getting the technique and the rules right.

‘But because they have been playing with us for a long time, they are now fearless.

‘They go out and just play and it is wonderful to watch.’

A new challenge also brings about its own added motivation for the side.

Jones added: ‘It’s the first ever Dedanists Foundation Cup – it would represent a huge win for Seacourt.

‘It is always nice to have something to train for.’
