Two Pompey players offer to cut their wages

At least two players have offered to take a pay cut to help out Pompey, administrators have revealed.

Andrew Andronikou told a packed press conference at Fratton Park yesterday that some players had discussed the option.

He refused to be drawn on who has made the offer.

Mr Andronikou said: 'One or two players have discussed taking a cut in wages.'

He added: 'It's not a subject that I've broached with them. It's a subject that is regularly put forward.'

His statement came as 85 staff at the club were made redundant.

When asked why players escaped the chop during yesterday's cull, he added: 'The players are very much protected by the Professional Football Association and unfortunately I'm unable to make any cuts.'

He added: 'At this moment in time they are the shop window of the club.'
