Jermain Defoe's second-half double sealed Pompey's first home win of the season as they came from behind to beat Middlesbrough at Fratton Park.
The England striker turned in a fabulous second-half performance to cancel out Mido's first-half strike, as the Blues hitman buried the winner four minutes from time.

Pompey's successful wing-back formation from the win at Everton lasted just 45 minutes as Boro's Egyptian striker capitalised on a defensive error in the Pompey backline to slot past David James.

But a tactical revamp at half-time from Harry Redknapp - and substitutes Nadir Belhadj and John Utaka adding real penetration - saw Pompey dominate the second period.

They got back on terms just before the hour mark as Peter Crouch slid Defoe through on goal to hammer in an equaliser.

And Defoe did it again in the dying minutes as Boro failed to clear a loose ball inside the area and the striker thrashed home a volley to win the points and send Fratton Park wild.

Good result, boro are a good team. It is great to have the weapon of being able to switch between two formations. Priceless.

Regarding Appiah, I said on a previous post I had heard nothing thus far. BUT Wenger came out and said he did not want him, and then XL go bust which may affect West Ham's purse strings. So I think his London move is delayed. Maybe us, or maybe somewhere in Europe. I think we will have to wait on this one.

Harry has shown that he is willing to try something and then have the kahoonies to put his hands up if it isnt working out and make changes. Full marks to him and the boys for today, great result against a tough team. It is wins like this that will make or break our season, anything taken from the top 4 will be a bonus. Think it would be great to sign Apphia as I am still not sure Diop has the skill and grunt. Where Apphia has both.

another brilliant performance from diarra, but today proved how much we rely on him, appiah would be the perfect partner for him in midfield. Davis did ok but he's not good enough for europe, we need sascha to give us the green light to get appiah, i've heard he doesn't want the wage bill going up anymore. PUP

Hello, is there any one out there? I know I've been away for a couple of weeks, but hey, this seems a bit like the lotto, with all the punters shying away 'cos of the credit crunch!

Come on, we won! First home win of the season and two wins on the trot. Does any one have anything to say, or maybe you're all down the pub celebrating.

PS. Mothy, please, please leave Coleman out of this. 13th in Championship is hardly likely to attract you to a Premier club.

Dave, I have to say that whatever people say about you on this site is unfair. I can see you are an easy target because of your passion for the game and loathing of idiots (if I'm allowed to call them that). I've said it before, you are a gentleman to those that don't try to wind you up. Just remember, count to 10 and the anger disappears.

It is good to be back home in England. I feel sorry for all those stranded in far off places bacause of the Hammers sponsors financial situation.
Oh yes, I did have a nice break, thank you. It was hot but boy, the old euros don't go as far as they did last year. Still, as the old saying goes, 'a change is as good as rest.'

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
