Pompey picked up their first Premier League win of the season in emphatic style at Everton.
Harry Redknapp's men destroyed David Moyes' side as they cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Jermain Defoe helped himself to two goals while Glen Johnson grabbed his first of the season.
And to top of it off David James saved a second-half penalty from Yakubu to pick up his first clean sheet of the campaign.
The match will be remembered for a tactical piece of genius from Harry Redknapp which ensured the win.
The Blues manager bravely opted for a switch to a 3-5-2 system, employing wing-backs, which the Toffees never fathomed.
Defoe opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a lovely turn and finish.
Then the England man exchanged passes with the marauding Johnson who doubled the advantage five minutes before the break.
That forced the home side to go for broke after the restart.
Pompey were happy to sit back and catch them on the counter, and that led to a delightful third from Defoe after 69 minutes.
He ran half the length of the pitch, exchanged a back-heeled one two with Davis and then lifted a delightful 20 yard chip over Tim Howard, which went in off the bar.
The win lifts spirits dramatically as Pompey go into the international break with their first win on the board.
