Pompey picked up their first Premier League win of the season in emphatic style at Everton.
Harry Redknapp's men destroyed David Moyes' side as they cruised to a 3-0 victory.

Jermain Defoe helped himself to two goals while Glen Johnson grabbed his first of the season.

And to top of it off David James saved a second-half penalty from Yakubu to pick up his first clean sheet of the campaign.

The match will be remembered for a tactical piece of genius from Harry Redknapp which ensured the win.

The Blues manager bravely opted for a switch to a 3-5-2 system, employing wing-backs, which the Toffees never fathomed.

Defoe opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a lovely turn and finish.

Then the England man exchanged passes with the marauding Johnson who doubled the advantage five minutes before the break.

That forced the home side to go for broke after the restart.

Pompey were happy to sit back and catch them on the counter, and that led to a delightful third from Defoe after 69 minutes.

He ran half the length of the pitch, exchanged a back-heeled one two with Davis and then lifted a delightful 20 yard chip over Tim Howard, which went in off the bar.

The win lifts spirits dramatically as Pompey go into the international break with their first win on the board.

Phew! We're off and running. Well done Harry, looks like your tactics confused them. 3-0 is a great start, now let's build on that.

Also, good to see David James save a penaly from The Yak. He doesn't miss many.

Once again, well done Harry and the team.

Glad we finally got the points. I was out all afternoon and only got back to hear Sky Sports News views. Seemed to say we were striking the ball around much more. I did not catch what the change in tactics was. Was it 3-5-2 or 4-5-1?

Hope a little more optimism will be floating around now.

3-5-2. It seems from early reports that Harry's tactics with the wingbacks totally confused Everton. What a win double as well, with Blackpool winning!!

'Er we go. 'er we go, 'er we go. Is that ok Velo?

Quite right Brands.

Im sick of this weirdo coming on the site everyday to criticise every part of the club.

Its a great result today and once again Harry has come up trumps after a lot of doubt on here for 2 weeks.

Were FA Cup winners, off to Portugal in a month, thrashing a big city club like Everton at home....what more do people want!!

Its about time all true fans on this site just ran Ranskum out of the place.

This pityful miserable idiot tries to make an area the rest of us find enjoyable into misery on a daily basis.

Well done Harry !! Well Done Pompey.......

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
