Two first-half goals were enough to give Pompey victory at Oxford tonight.
But the 2-1 success was marred by a second-half injury to Lassana Diarra on his first pre-season outing.

Diarra hobbled off midway through the half after picking up an ankle injury.

Papa Bouba Diop put the Blues in front after 31 minutes, conve
rting a fine cross from Djimi Traore from a few yards.

Jermain Defoe then grabbed his fifth goal in six pre-season outings with a typically clinical piece of finishing on the stroke of half-time.

England coach Stuart Pearce was present to see the goal from the Blues striker.

Oxford had their moments too and carved out chances of their own.

And 10 changes at half-time from the home side ensured the match was a good workout for Harry Redknapp's men in terms of fitness.

The non-league side deserved their goal from Alex Fisher, who rolled the ball home from a few yards with the last kick of the game.

Fingers crossed that Diarra is okay.

Guess he wont be playing at Wembley on Sunday.

Diarra is like the flour in a cake recipe. Without this vital ingredient the pompey cake will not be edible after cooking. He is a vital cog in the pompey engine room, especially after the sale of Muntari.

I am not a nerd, just a very informed and passionate supporter of the Portsmouth Football club with Sach at the helm. Diarra is our most important player by far.

Thats the trouble with football these days. We have the like of you Dave, who has some great original, groundbreaking footballing ideas. Then we have the likes of Redknapp, clueless and confused, in charge of our transfer kitty! And yet while you earn the minimum wage sweeping roads, 'rogue' Redknapp takes home in a year what you could not hope to take home in ten lifetimes. Its a travesty!!

I'm with you there Lonnie.
First outing and picks up knock not a good omen, although some say it's better to get it out of the way now.
I wish we could say the same about the other fella on here!!!

these sort of knocks show our lack of quality in the middle of the park. who is good enough to replace him?

the thing is i dont think many squads have the quality to replace someone like Diarra, everton have cahill but they would struggle to replace him, Villa - Barry, Man City - Elano etc. obviousyl the likes of Chelsea, asrenal, spurs, man utd will have strenght in depth but we are not quite at that level yet. and yes i did say spurs and not livepool, my pick to break the top 4.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
