HARRY REDKNAPP will split up his FA Cup heroes as he bids to push Pompey up the table tonight.
The Blues boss is keen to rotate certain positions against Birmingham at Fratton Park as he looks to avoid picking up injuries among fatigued players.

It means Jermain Defoe returns from being cup tied to partner Milan Baros, Kanu the man to make way.

Elsewhere, Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Arnold Mvuemba are pushing for recalls, with two of those likely to succeed in the absence of Richard Hughes (bruised leg).

Yet while it may be all change on the Pompey front, Redknapp is confident it won't hinder their chances of triumphing over Birmingham.

He said: 'It was a tough game Saturday. We looked at the stats and probably a lot of them have run the most they have run this year in a game.

'It's not worth risking them, really – they could be out for three or four weeks – when I've got somebody else who can come in and play who also in my opinion is a terrific player.

'If I make one or two changes, the lads coming in are good players.

'I've got a squad and some good players who are not in the team so I might just change one or two around.'

However, Redknapp is unlikely to tinker with his reliable back four.

He added: 'You would like to rest Sol or Sylvain but I can't.

'We are struggling for cover at centre half. It's a big problem for us with Noe out injured. That's an area we're short in and can't change.'

mattb, I don't think Harry, or any of us will forget Linvoy. Sadly, his chances of playing top league football appear to have gone.

Harry is right though about the lack of cover in the central defensive positions. A long-term injury to either Sol or Sylvain would creat a problem. It is something that I'm sure the scouts will have already have been briefed about for the summer signings.

I reckon Davis will be a good change for this AND the Villa game.
