JORDAN CROSS brings you the action as it happened from the Euro tussle at Fratton Park.
Pompey: James, Johnson, Hreidarsson, Distin, Lauren, Muntari, Diop, Diarra, Kranjcar, Baros, Defoe. Subs: Ashdown, Aubey, Mendes, Utaka, Kanu.

Villa: Carson, Mellberg, Knight, Laursen, Bouma, Young, Reo-Coker, Maloney, Agbonlahor, Carew. Subs: Taylor, Salifou, Osbourne, Petrov, Harewood.

Pompey make two changes from the midweek win over Birmingham. Lauren comes in for the injured Campbell and fit again Diarra replaces Mendes.
England boss Fabio Capello is in the stands.

00: Villa kick off attacking the Fratton End.
03: Maloney cuts inside and fires at goal but James gathers.
05: Baros breaks clear but is penalised for a foul on Laursen.
08: Bouma pulls down Baros just outside the box.
09: Diarra leaves Reo-Coker for dead and his shot is deflected for a corner, which is cleared.
GOAL! 12: Pompey have the lead with a delightful goal from Jermain Defoe. Johnson's long ball beats Laursen and the front man is on to it like a shot before lifting a lovely lob over Carson, who is in no man's land. That's Defoe's sixth goal - and in front of Fabio Capello too.
17: James does well to push away a dangerous whipped Young free-kick.
18: Baros is bright and burns off two Villa defenders before firing at Carson.
30: Distin has to be alert to see off Carew after a period of Villa pressure.
34: Carew works some space but fires high and wide with Maloney in space on his own.
37: Muntari goes into the book for a lunge on Reo-Coker.
GOAL! 38: Pompey have daylight due to the craziest of own goals from Reo-Coker. Muntari finds an intelligent burst from Defoe, Carson comes to clear, smashes the ball into Reo-Coker and it ricochets into the empty net.
45: James pushes Young's effort around the post.
Half-time: Pompey 2 Villa 0.

46: Pompey restart the game.
50: Villa should be back in it as Maloney squares for Agbonlahor but he somehow misses from a few yards.
52: Pompey are turning on the style. Kranjcar is tackling and showboating, the full-backs are bombing on and the home team are two passes in front of the visitors.
54: Kranjcar ends a period of possession by firing just wide from 20 yards.
57: Harewood replaces Maloney.
58: Knight heads just wide from a corner.
64: Mellberg virtually assaults Kranjcar as his frustration boils over after more quality from the Pompey man. Mellberg is booked.
65: Lauren is booked for a foul on Agbonlahor.
67: Muntari thunders a shot just wide.
70: Muntari unleashes another thunderbolt which Carson just about gathers.
72: Kranjcar should have scored after more positive play from Baros but shoots wide.
73: Harewood sticks the ball in the net but is offside.
75: James keeps out Young's 25 yard free-kick.
78: Salifou replaces Bouma.
81: Muntari is sent off for a second booking after a pull on Salifou.
81: Defoe is given a standing ovation when he is replaced by Utaka.
83: Mellberg is given his marching orders for a foul on Diarra.
Full-time: Pompey 2 Villa 0

Delighted with the win, who'd have thought it, 6 pointers over both of Birmingham's PL sides. Not happy with Muntari getting himself sent off but at least it solves a selection headache for Harry, can now play a -classic 4-4-2 with Utaka on the right wing... if only it were that simple huh? 6 points behind Everton, come on lads!!

It should only be a 1 match ban yes, that is unless Portsmouth appeal, highly unlikely given the surcomestances, the FA look into his conduct durring the game and find him guilty of repeatedly and blatently fouling players or if his challenges were found to be dangerous. Sounds to me, I mean I only get match reports come in over the net, that his challenges, although frequent, were not reckless so he should get away with a single match ban unless Villa ask the FA to look into it but I doubt O'Neill will.

Apparently its a two match ban, thats what Redknapp said in the interview after the game, also diop has now stacked up 10 yellows so he also misses two games. Who does everyone think should replace these two then, i think give mendes and davis a go?

Diop misses no game, the rules now are that you dont get suspended for reaching booking milestones. but Muntari should get just the one match ban

Well redknapp said in his interview that diop had now reached 10 yellows and would miss the next two games, im going to retract from my earlier comment bout muntari missing two games though, it could be one game.

Soory ive just heard the interview with redknapp again, and he deff said muntari misses two games, sommin to with the fact he got sent off earlier in the season, he said diop misses two as well.

I thought it was 2 matches for both Diop and Muntari. I don't think Pompey will appeal. Muntari got away with a number of fouls before being sent off. I think he was also warned once in the game. HR will have to have a talk to the players. The number of fouls being made will soon result in another penalty and losing a game and , according to Murphy's Law, it will be in the semi final or final.
