Cyclist dies after being knocked off his bike

A 60-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died after being knocked off his bike in an accident in Southampton.
The man from Swanwick died at the scene, and a 32-year-old man from Whiteley has been seriously injured following the incident at about 9pm on Wednesday.

The pair were part of a group of four cyclists who were riding over the Itchen Bridge in Sout
hampton when they were involved in a collision with a dark-coloured Peugeot 406 heading in the opposite direction.

The Whiteley man suffered chest and leg injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he is in a serious condition.

The bridge was closed in both directions for six hours as officers investigated.

Police have yet to release the identity of the dead man as the family have yet to be informed.

The occupants of the car were also taken to the hospital for treatment, the 37-year-old male driver, was suffering with chest pains and breathing difficulties.

A 19-year-old male passenger was also suffering breathing difficulties and a 34-year-old woman suffered facial and chest injuries.

Arrests have been made, but police won't say how many or on what grounds for operational reasons.
