A car crashed head on into another vehicle after driving the wrong way down a major road.
The collision closed the northbound carriageway of the A3(M) last night for more than an hour.

Miraculously nobody was injured in the crash, which happened about 9.30pm.

Fire crews from Havant rushed to the scene, which was close to where the motorway joins with the A27.

Police said the accident was caused by an elderly woman driving south down the northbound carriageway. She was travelling at about 30mph when she collided with a car travelling north.

PC Mark Wilson said: 'The accident had the makings of a very serious collision but luckily nobody was injured.'

The two cars involved were a black Ford Fiesta and a blue Honda Civic, each with one occupant.

Police evenutally reopened the road at 10.37pm.

Nobody had to be taken to hospital.

One of the reasons that people should be made to retake their test when they reach a 'certain age'

I honestly can't think how someone can drive on the wrong side of this particular section of the A3M motorway. There is nowhere on the A3M where you can "accidentally" get onto the other carriageway???

I wanted to say a huge thank you to those cars that were driving southbound on the A3 last night. Those that were flashing their lights at me as I was travelling northbound on the A3 allowed me to react quickly to the sight of a car travelling head on towards me and move out of the way. I am extremely glad to hear that no body was injured as it certainly could have been a tradegy. A huge shout out to the emergency services too, they do a fantastic job! Cheers!
