ENJOY the good weather – but drive safely.
That's the advice from police who say there tend to be more road traffic collisions during warm weather.

This, they say, is because of a tendency to 'switch off' to the risks associated with the road.

Motorcyclists are more likely to ride in go
od weather and some have been seen to take risks by wearing shorts, T- shirts and trainers, officers say.

Police are using unmarked motorcycles and have been stopping riders travelling too fast.

Superintendent Paul Morrison, head of Sussex Road Policing, said: 'It's great that people want to get out and enjoy the weather but they must do so responsibly.

'Children are more likely to be playing out later during the summer, so drivers must appreciate that there is a greater risk of a child running out into the road.

'There will be more motorcyclists on the road because of the good weather and the riders must ride responsibly.

'Taking risks by wearing inappropriate clothing that offers little or no protection and exceeding the speed limit is a recipe for disaster.

'We are deploying unmarked motorcycles as well as highly-visible patrols to identify and deal positively with anyone who breaks the law.

'It's all too easy in the good weather to "switch off" and not look at junctions or take in what road signs and traffic movements are telling you. Enjoy the weather but don't become a casualty.'

Police advise that when driving in hot conditions motorists should have plenty of water and have rest periods on long journeys.
